Is Your Child Ready for Primary School?
Starting “big school” is a big step! Here’s how to know if your child is ready for primary school in Namibia:
✅ Physical Development:
- Can your child sit still and straight? This requires core strength, built through play!
- Can they hold a pencil comfortably? Play with toys like Legos or playdough helps!
✅ Listening & Learning:
- Can your child follow instructions? Story time and rhymes help with this.
- Can they connect sounds and pictures? This paves the way for reading!
✅ Confidence & Independence:
- Does your child feel good about trying new things?
- Can they solve problems independently?
Remember:
- Children should be at least 7 years old (or turning 7 in the school year) for Grade 1.
- Feeling confident and emotionally secure is key!
- Grade R (Reception)/Grade 0: This “ready” year helps your child transition smoothly.
- Play-based Learning: This builds skills like problem-solving and teamwork.
- Every child learns at their own pace! Don’t worry if they’re not ahead.
