Mosaic Film Experience Namibia – Youth Stories for Change invites Namibian school learners to tell bold, creative stories through mobile filmmaking. The competition is open to school learners aged 13 to 18 and celebrates storytelling, originality, and the theme “The Power of We.”
Who Can Enter
- Namibian school learners aged 13 to 18 as of 1 June 2025.
- No prior filmmaking experience is required.
- Participants must have parent or guardian permission to take part.
- Films must be shot, edited, and uploaded using a mobile device.
Film Requirements
- Maximum length: 3 minutes, including credits.
- Credits must not exceed 30 seconds.
- Every film must follow the theme “The Power of We.”
- Every entry must include a glass or cup as a prop.
- Every entry must include the word “Wagwan”, spoken or shown in writing.
- Films should be family-friendly and suitable for a broad audience.
Technical Specifications
- Films must be recorded and edited entirely on a smartphone or tablet.
- Preferred resolution: 1080p HD (1920x1080).
- Preferred aspect ratio: 16:9.
- Accepted file formats include MP4 and MOV.
- If subtitles are used, they must remain within a title-safe area.
Audio Requirements
- Audio must be clear and balanced.
- Sound should be present in both left and right channels.
- Music and sound effects must be original, royalty-free, public domain, or properly licensed.
Credits and Acknowledgements
Credits should clearly acknowledge the people and tools behind the film. Where relevant, participants should include the director or creator, writer, producer, editor, cast, production support, music credits, sound effects, stock or archival footage, artwork references, the mobile device used to film the project, and the editing software used.
Submission Checklist
- Upload your completed film and submit the official entry form.
- Attach a signed parent or guardian consent form.
- Include film credits and acknowledgements.
- Include a brief synopsis of no more than 200 words.
- Ensure the video is downloadable by enabling download permissions in your privacy settings.
- Check that subtitles, if used, are title-safe and readable.

- Winner announcement: 11 August 2025
Judging Criteria
Entries in the 13 to 18 age category will be judged on storytelling, creativity, originality, and overall impact. Judges will also consider how effectively each film uses the required challenge elements, how well the theme is communicated, and the technical execution of picture, sound, and editing.

Rights and Permissions
Participants must make sure that all music, images, performances, artwork, and footage used in their films are either original or properly licensed. Written permission should be secured for identifiable people and for locations where permission is required. Entries that infringe copyright, privacy, or other rights may be disqualified.
Entrants retain ownership of their films, but by submitting an entry they grant Mosaic Film Experience, LearnOnOne, and Future Media the right to screen, promote, publicise, and share the film in connection with the competition and related educational or marketing activity. Organisers reserve the right to reject entries that are incomplete, offensive, unsafe, misleading, or not compliant with the published rules.
Additional Guidelines
- Only submit original work created for this competition or work you fully control.
- Make sure the story is appropriate for a school-age audience.
- Avoid defamatory, hateful, discriminatory, or unlawful content.
- Check export quality before uploading to ensure the file plays correctly.
- Late, incomplete, corrupted, or inaccessible submissions may not be considered.
Plain-Language Legal Summary
The longer terms, general conditions, and ownership clauses mainly reinforce a few core principles: enter only if the work is yours or properly cleared, make sure the film does not violate anyone’s rights, understand that the organisers may promote selected entries, and accept that disqualification can happen if the rules are broken or false information is provided.
If you are under 18, parent or guardian consent is essential. By entering, participants also accept the organisers’ competition decisions, including judging outcomes and administrative rulings, as long as those decisions are made under the published competition rules.
