For 34 years, Michelle McLean’s Trust has championed Namibian children. Founded by Miss Universe in 1992, the organisation has provided education and support through initiatives including Michelle McLean Primary School. Its latest effort, “Vision for the Future,” brings practical eye-care support and visual aids to those who need them most.
The initiative brought together Michelle McLean, Dr. Johanna Shuuluka of SINASRA, and Honorary Consul Stephen Snively. SINASRA’s work with Namibians living with albinism added essential expertise and visual-support resources, while philanthropy and partnerships helped strengthen the project’s reach.
Four Programmes Under Vision for the Future
- Hand-held magnifiers were delivered to learners at the School for the Visually Impaired.
- Telescopic eyeglasses were provided to adults with albinism, together with an auto-refractor donated to SINASRA for more accurate prescriptions.
- Prescription eyeglasses were distributed to people in need in partnership with Lions Club International.
- Customised prescription lenses were provided to children after cataract surgery, with the Windhoek Lions Club supplying frames.
Launch Event
The official launch took place on 27 March 2025 at Michelle McLean Primary School. The programme included a presentation by Dr. Shuuluka, reflections from Principal Bezuidenhoudt, and performances by the school’s learners, making the event both informative and deeply community-focused.
